Our classroom is organized in a way that encourages responsible and respectful behavior from all students. My desk is located at the front of the room and diagonal from the door in order to give me full visibility of the classroom and visibility of student behaviors when entering and exiting the classroom. I have the desks organized so that everyone is facing the board, this is necessary for Slingerland lessons and cuts down on distractions during other class periods. The desks are organized in groups of two to allow students to easily be able to "pair and share" throughout class periods. Walkways between desks are wide enough for me to easily use proximity as management and allows me easy access to help all students. We have a table for small group lessons and work at the back of the room. This table is placed at the back of the room to allow for effective small group lessons with limited distractions. Directly to the left of the door, each student has a box to turn in completed work and pick up graded work. Along the same wall we keep class materials and resources.
